This thesis is about choosing literary works (fiction) to read in upper secondary school and the factors influencing these choices. I have performed qualitative interviews in order to explore this from three different perspectives, namely the teachers, the students and the school librarians at two different schools. The reason behind why I chose to write this thesis is the decline in reading comprehension among Swedish students in recent years (PISA 2012). I wanted to further examine whether the books that the students have to read have any effect on their motivation to read.
